How to Choose Vanity Units and Basins

Due to their very nature, bathroom vanities hold a prime position in any bathroom. A well chosen vanity basin or cabinet that fits in with the character of your home can be a handsome centrepiece of your bathroom designs and can help bring the whole room together. The bathroom is one of the rooms where the homeowner can actually express themselves. The bathroom is your sanctuary, where you should feel free to express yourself.

Vanities get used several times a day and if it is not suitable or practical you'll soon regret your choice.

Consider who is going to use the bathroom, eg guest bathrooms usually don't need a lot of storage. Family bathrooms will benefit from a lot of cupboards and drawers for frequently used items such as towels, toiletries, perfumes etc.

Consider the amount of space you want available on the vanity top. Although a larger single sink has lots of counter-top space, a double sink can improve the bathroom efficiency while still providing ample space on the vanity top.

Contemplate the style you are looking for in a vanity cabinet or basin. There are many styles of vanities to choose from including modern, traditional and Victorian. The style you choose should fit in with the style of your home.

    • Basins themselves have an incredible range of shapes and styles.
    • Pedestals are ideal for smaller rooms and can look classical, modern or heritage in style.
    • Above counter basins or vessel basins give an illusion of space and are available in different materials, shapes and colours. They appear to be floating on the counter-top, giving a very unusual clean and clear design feature.
    • Wall hung vanities do create more floor space and are usually very sharp and clearly designed. They do tend to lack in storage space.

And of course there are a multitude of styles of drop in basins and semi recess basins.

If it all seems too much, just give us a call and we can help you with your selections.
